Frequently Asked Questions

What platforms will Sun Doesn’t Set launch on?

Right now we are highly focused on making the best experience possible on PC and Mac via Steam, but we would continue to look at the possibilities of launching on console.

Where can I find a demo?

We are working on getting the first few hours of the game packaged into a playable demo that will release around the same time as our Kickstarter campaign. We’ll be announcing the dates in the near future, so sign up for our newsletter or follow our socials for more!

When is the Kickstarter campaign, and why choose Kickstarter?

We’ll have Kickstarter dates soon, so sign up for the newsletter or follow on socials for updates!

We are a team of about 12+ people coming together on nights and weekends to make our dream game, teaching ourselves and supporting each other along the way. We are an incredibly scrappy and self-sufficient bunch and, as creatives in our own fields, we’re very familiar with the complexities of making money and doing art. We also know that with limited budgets comes compromises, and we want to find every avenue possible to create the best experience possible.

By pursuing funding through Kickstarter, we’ll have an opportunity to share our vision with the world and hear feedback from the people we care about the most - our community. Kickstarter will give us a better head start needed to self-publish, or go into talks with publishers who believe in our game as much as we do.

What is the best way to support the game?

We are so thankful for the interest and support from our community. Please follow us on our social media pages, watch our trailers, share posts with your friends, and just talk about the game with people you think will like it! Supporting us on Kickstarter will also help tremendously. We will have a Discord set up around the same time as the Kickstarter, so you can connect with other fans!

How long has Sun Doesn’t Set been in development?

As a concept, Sun Doesn’t Set has been alive inside the brain of our Creative Director, Emma Jackson Anderson, for a lifetime. Development started off slowly as Emma’s personal passion project in 2021, and it began to really come together in 2023 with 12+ people coming together around the project as a part-time, nights-and-weekends collective studio.

What games is Sun Doesn’t Set inspired by?

You could describe the game as a blend of Disco Elysium, Into the Breach, and the Persona series in terms of tone, gameplay elements, and sense of place. We also pull in inspiration from classic point-and-click games.

As creatives, we pull inspiration from all types of sources including our post-industrial neighborhoods in Brooklyn, New York and Chicago, Illinois. If you have a fondness for the magical realism genre, Expressionist and Impressionism art movements, and indie music of the 2000s, you and Sun Doesn’t Set will get along very nicely together.

How big is the world of Sun Doesn’t Set? Is it open world?

You will spend a lot of time in the walled off city of Cai Mons, which has XXXX explorable areas with some hidden nooks and crannies to discover. It’s not open world in the sense that you’ll be traversing a great deal, but we want to preserve that feeling of moving to a strange new city for the first time and slowly growing more familiar with the streets you pass every day.

You may just get to see outside the city, but you’ll have to play to find out more!

Will my choices impact the narrative?

Your choices will have minor impacts on the way characters treat you and what sort of rewards you can gain from interactions.

Of note, we did not want to permit the player from doing “evil” choices, but you can certainly shape what kind of character the protagonist Char is through more playful, mischievous, friendly, or sometimes scornful dialogue options.
